Dear Golf House friends,
My name is Ilka and I will be taking you into my golf world and informing you about current topics in the Golf House magazine in the near future.

A few details about myself:

I work full time in a clinic as a radiologist in the third year of my residency. I already started working as a C-trainer and as a golf model during my A-levels. You might even know my face: I was featured in four Golf House catalogs.
In my spare time I do quite a lot of sports and was able to participate in the Berlin Marathon twice, for example. In addition, I have been devoting my time to golf for 17 years. It all started in elementary school: My best friend at the time took me to a tryout at GCC Seddiner See (golf club near Berlin) in 2003 and I became part of the girls' team. In the following years I had the chance to get a taste of the Bundesliga as a short-term member of the Golfclub Berlin Wannsee. Today, I am still a member of a ladies' team - currently that of the Märkischer Golfclub Potsdam. Despite my stressful job, I am very ambitious and have the goal of playing my first sub-par round in 2021. You can follow my journey to get there on Instagram on my profile "ilka.rei".

Besides my own sporting ambitions, I support my friend and German Playing Professional Nicolai von Dellingshausen in his rise to the European Tour. I mainly use my vacations to travel along as a caddy at his side. Being so close to the professional sport gives you some goosebumps and teaches you even more respect for the sport as well as the performance of the professional golfers. However, that wasn't always the case - I must confess that until three years ago I knew little about the European system of golf tours and their players. Until then, professional sport was rather a parallel world to my favorite hobby. in 2018, I had the chance to be involved in player and guest relations at the BMW International Open in Cologne, directly followed by the Ryder Cup in Paris, and was live on site at a professional tournament for the first time. Since then I can only recommend to participate in such an event as a spectator or (even better - and also a wish on my part) as a ProAm participant. The BMW International Open in Munich and the Porsche European Open in Hamburg invite you to participate every year.

By the way, German golf has been developing in leaps and bounds in recent years: there are promising talents on the various tours, both in the women's game (with Esther Henseleit winning the LET in 2019 and Sophia Popov winning this year's major) and in the men's game (more than 10 players on the Challenge and European Tour; Hurly Long deserves special mention here with a fantastic first season on the Challenge Tour).

Besides my own game and professional sports, I am particularly interested in the principles of the biodynamics of the swing: Which movement leads to which swing pattern? Which (mis)shots result from it? An understanding of technique and a basic knowledge of physics help to analyze the game and make it possible to apply one's own strengths on the course or to make tactically wise decisions.
In addition to this tangible aspect of golf, I also pay attention to an unconventional and often underestimated part: the mental side of the sport. Why do we react in which way to bad ball positions, successes, failures and pressure situations? And how are we able to influence these ourselves? The golf course is a unique place to get to know one's own personality and that of others better in a fairly short time: in the 4 to 5 hours of golf rounds, an astonishing number of "extreme situations" arise.
